Our grandmothers walked up the Alipiri steps together every year, and every year they came down with the same idea. We finally met on the 1,000th step, both of us out of breath and arguing about whether the laddu was worth it.

It was. So was the climb. This February, with Govinda's blessings, we take the seven steps together.
